Hair Care Hacks for Healthy Hair This Winter

Hair Care Hacks for Healthy Hair This Winter

admin   |   Misc

We’re in full fall mode now and with it, your skin and hair may be seeing the effects from the colder, dry air. Your hair is just going to become drier and more brittle the colder it gets. That’s why now is a good time to begin a winter hair care routine so that you’ll keep your hair healthy, manageable, and fabulous looking all winter long.

At PR at Partners, we can help you with any of our deep conditioning treatments to revitalize your hair, add nourishment, and repair damage during the months that your hair is at its weakest.

Oil your scalp. Your hair produces natural oils that help to keep your hair moisturized, but during dry, cold months, your hair needs extra help to stay hydrated. Your stylist at PR at Partners can determine which type of hair oil is best for your hair type. Then, once or twice a week, simply massage your scalp with the oil and let it sit overnight, then shampoo it out in the morning. The act of massage helps boost circulation and aids in the production of those valuable natural oils.

Skip the shampoo. Well, not literally. But you should only be washing your hair 1-2 times a week. Over-shampooing, especially in winter, will strip your hair of those natural oils, leading to dry, brittle hair. Try a gentle, clarifying shampoo, and if you tend to have oily hair, feel free to try a dry shampoo for those in-between days where your hair may be starting to look lifeless and feel limp. A small amount of dry shampoo can boost your volume, rejuvenating your hair instantly.

Don’t skip the conditioner. Unlike shampoo, you should be conditioning often. Use a high-quality moisturizing or smoothing conditioner that is packed with nourishing ingredients to add moisture to your hair to keep it soft, supple, and manageable. When rinsing your hair, use cool water to help lock the moisture in your hair shaft and cuticle since hot water will strip that moisture before it can be absorbed properly.

Wet hair is fragile. Especially during the winter, there are two things that you shouldn’t do – leave the house with wet hair and go to sleep with wet hair. Gently towel dry your hair, use air, or fan dry on low heat before leaving the house or going to bed. When your hair is wet, your locks are prone to damage such as breakage, split ends, and color fade.

Go easy on the heated tools. Applying too much heat can cause damage to your hair, especially during the winter months. When you can, give your heated styling tools a break from your morning routine. On those mornings when you do use your curling rod, straightener, or hairdryer, be sure to apply a heat protectant product before styling your hair.

Reduce the frizz. Wintertime is notorious for frizzy, staticky hair. This is because of the dry, winter air. Applying a smoothing cream before styling, or a de-frizz serum after styling will help to keep your hair smooth and tame those flyaways all day long.

Invest in lined hats. Hats, beanies, and scarves can help protect your hair from the wind, rain, snow, and other harsh elements of winter. Unfortunately, cotton and wool can cause split ends and breakage from constant rubbing against your strands. Headwear that is lined with a silk-like fabric will help keep your hair protected and healthy without breakage.
