Highlights Will Brighten Your Winter Complexion
Winter is in full swing, and with the darker days and cold, dry air your complexion may be losing some of the brightness that was left over from the summer. Determining Your Skin Tone Is Important
Possibly the most important step in the highlighting process is to determine your skin tone. Is it cool, warm, or neutral? If you choose the wrong shade for your highlights it will backfire and cause your complexion to appear duller or even ashen and washed out. The right shade of highlights will complement the natural undertones of your skin to accentuate your natural beauty.
Cool Skin Tones
If you have a naturally cool skin tone your veins will appear blue under your skin. You will look better in silver than in gold, and black will look better on you than brown. Cool blondes should ask for ashy highlights in silver, ice, champagne or platinum. Cool brunettes should opt for shades of ash brown, mocha, and chocolate. Cool reds should choose auburn, burgundy, or deep red shades for the best results.
Warm Skin Tones
If your skin tone is warm your veins will appear greenish or a turquoise color through your skin. You will look better in gold than silver, and you will look better in brown than black. Warm blondes will look best with highlights in shades of honey, caramel, or amber. Warm brunettes should choose golden brown colors like honey, chestnut, and mahogany. Warm reds are best complemented by amber, copper, strawberry blonde and rusty shades.
Neutral Complexion
If your complexion is neutral you have a balance of both cool and warm undertones. Neutral complexions look great with virtually any color. You can keep the appearance of your neutral tone with equally neutral shades for your highlights. You can also create the illusion of either a warm or cool skin tone by choosing a warm shade to bring out the golden undertones of your skin or by choosing a cool shade to accentuate the blue and pink undertones.
